The Verb hotel is living in the ‘60s, man, and it’s pretty damn cool. The midcentury building began as baseball-themed motel in 1959, and has been restored to a glory that likely far surpasses what the Fenway Motor Lodge ever had. The distinctive color-blocked windows hint at an overall funky vibe: Rooms are adorned with graphic Boston Phoenix magazine covers and peppered with retro elements like typewriters and bright teal clocks. Architecture fans will be into the restoration; music nerds will geek out about the memorabilia lining the walls; and if you just like to sleep in a comfy bed, well, they’ve got that, too. And, of course, there’s vinyl for the playing in the colorful, animal-skin-strewn lobby.

PRO TIP: Save a meal for a bacon-and-shiitake-packed okonomiyaki at the hotel’s new restaurant, Hojoko.

THE DETAILS: 93 rooms from $220. Oh, and a pool. NB: This hotel is likely for those who didn’t actually live through the ‘60s themselves.
