Everyone talks about Carnegie Deli and Katz’s in New York, but if you’re from L.A., you know the truth: The best Jewish-deli pastrami sandwich in America is at Langer’s. (C’mon, you’re going to argue with Nora Ephron?) A time capsule back to the 1950s, the ambiance at this iconic deli (est. 1947) is all brown leather booths, decades of press clippings, and a soundtrack of nothing but quiet awe. The item to behold is the #19: untoasted rye, Russian dressing, creamy coleslaw, and a couple slices of Swiss—all in service of the hand-sliced, juicy, spicy, smoky, beefy pastrami. On the side: a single dill pickle. If you’re a true minimalist, order a plain pastrami sandwich with mustard instead, to fully comprehend the greatness.

PRO TIP: Because this is L.A., you can order anything from the Langer’s menu, and they’ll bring it out to your car.

THE DETAILS: Saturdays are a madhouse, and the restaurant’s closed on Sundays; go on a weekday for peak enjoyment.
