El Palacio de los Jugos
A super-casual Cuban joint; the name translates to “The Juice Palace.” But don’t confuse this juice palace with your typical frou-frou juice bar. This open-air market slash restaurant is sectioned off into different stalls, all which offer a wide variety of food and beverages. Craving a freshly squeezed guarapo de caña (sugar cane juice)? Just head to the juice stall. Need something of more sustenance? May we suggest the lechon (roast pork) with a side of congri (rice + beans cooked together). Whichever adventure you do choose, rest assured you’re getting real Cuban food in a real Cuban setting—humidity and all! If you’re lucky, you might even witness an intense game of dominos taking place at the table next to you.
PRO TIP: Brush up on your Spanish before heading over. Most dishes are labeled by their Spanish name.
THE DETAILS: Most of Palacio de los Jugos locations are located a distance from Miami’s touristy area. Ride over in an Uber or rent a car. Just beware, parking is tight.
