The Standard Lido Bar and Lounge
What’s the beach equivalent of après-ski cocktailing? If you’re in Miami at the Standard Spa–basically Epcot if you’re into green juices and massages–then the answer is the Lido Bar. Inside, off the hotel's lobby, you’ll find a warm-wood midcentury mecca, down to the upholstered Eames-inspired armchairs, specialty Bingo nights, ping-pong tables for grabs, and refreshing cocktails such as frozen rosé (or frosé, if you’re feeling fancy). But this being Florida, the real action is outside at the Bayside Grill. It looks out on the water, so it’s the ideal early-evening venue for sipping on elderflower sangria while snacking on artichoke fries, spicy tuna poké, or other healthy-ish small plates put out by the hotel’s chef, Mark Zeitouni. The Standard is near South Beach, but not technically in South Beach (it’s on Biscayne Bay Island), so you get to feel like you’re a part of the scene without being overwhelmed by the scene; as far as Miami goes, it’s a pleasantly chill way to end a day on the sand or, perhaps, kick off your night.
PRO TIP: Happy Hour is truly the happiest hour here. In a city known for expensive cocktails, you can get a glass of $7 Prosecco or a $3 Peroni while noshing on the $9 fancy nachos–melty cheese, prosciutto, chiles–beach-body be damned.
THE DETAILS: Hotel guests get better treatment, of course, but it’s usually not too much of a pain to find a seat. The grill serves breakfast and lunch, too, so it’s open Monday to Thursday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m and Friday to Saturday, until 11:30 p.m. Happy Hour is 4–7 p.m. and includes free sunset views.
