Superiority Burger
Brooks Headley is making some of the city’s most original food, which just happens to be vegetarian (and some accidentally vegan) riffs on burger-joint classics. This clown-car-size spot made its name with the namesake burger, a proprietary blend of quinoa and such that somehow manages to be blissfully trashy. Jump if they have the yuba Philly “steak,” drenched in melted "cheez," and don’t skip a single salad special or the burnt broccoli with eggplant purée. But mostly, do not skip dessert: The two brain-twisting flavors of gelato and sorbet daily will probably win the guy another James Beard award.
PRO TIP: Check the shop's Instagram feed (@superiorityburger) for specials and some of the best prose we’ve read in ages. Oh, and don’t worry about getting back in line to order dessert: You can pay for everything at once and pick it up when you’re ready. The space is minuscule; consider taking your order to Tompkins Square Park in warmer weather.
THE DETAILS: Open 11:30 a.m.–10 p.m.; closed Tuesday. The line for dinner starts to form just before 6.
