GO HERE: for the quintessential high-society experience, with quintessential French cuisine to match. This jewel-box brasserie on the Seine attracts the crème de la crème of society, fashion, celebrities, intellectuals, you name it. If Balzac were writing today, he’d have a corner banquette.

ORDER THE: escargots, filet mignon with béarnaise and fries, sole meunière, chocolate mousse.

THE VIBE IS: textbook chic (and romantique). Dress well or don’t bother.

PRACTICAL STUFF: Open for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. The scene isn’t as buzzy at lunch, though it is fun to have a few glasses of wine and head over the bridge to the Louvre.
