GO HERE: to stay in a former flophouse that’s been transformed into one of the most popular hangs on the city’s up-and-coming east end. Notorious strip club Jilly’s occupied the building’s ground floor until 2014, when the building underwent a top-to-bottom gut job that maintained many of the original architectural flourishes of the Romanesque Revival 1891 building. It reopened in 2017, looking better than ever with a new glass-enclosed rooftop that serves small plates and classic cocktails with sensational views of the city’s skyscraper-filled center.

STAY IN THE: King Terrace rooms, which feature small, brick-enclosed walkouts. All rooms include French press coffee makers, record players with a small selection of curated vinyl, and the corner suites have floor-to-ceiling brass poles, retrofitted to hold small shelves, in homage to Jilly’s glory days.

THE VIBE: bright, shiny, new, and ever so slightly off the beaten path, while still being close to downtown. Nearby are several breweries, a concert venue, and many excellent brunch options, including the White Lily Diner and Bonjour Brioche.

PRACTICAL STUFF: Rooms start at $309. Book at thebroadviewhotel.ca.
