Behind the Scenes at Our #BAKitchen Housewarming Party

Last night, we threw a housewarming party to celebrate the opening of our shiny, new Test Kitchen at Bon Appétit's new home, 1 World Trade Center. We outfitted our kitchen space with goods from Nest, Moen, Jenn-Air, and Calvin Klein Home, so of course we wanted to invite everyone we knew to stop by. We caught up with our favorite chefs and tastemakers over cocktails and amazing food prepared by Andrew Carmellini, the chef/owner of NYC hotspots like Locanda Verde and Little Park. Take a look at the guests, food, drinks, and more.
Alex Lau1/22What’s the best housewarming gift you can get? "A friend came to Little Park and brought me a tray of sea urchin from Hokkaido. That was a nice housewarming present, I gotta tell you. It was gone in minutes, though." —Andrew Carmellini (at right), chef/owner, The Dutch, Little Park, Lafayette, Locanda Verde, Bar Primi (pictured withCésar Troisgros, Michel Troisgros, and Daniel Boulud).

Melissa Hom2/22What’s the last thing you cooked for yourself at home? "Avocado toast with olive oil, salt, and chile peppers. There's a new little canteen that just moved into my building that makes the best avocado toast, but I've gained like 12 pounds in the past three weeks—I have to stop!" —Jenna Lyons, creative director and president, J. Crew

Melissa Hom4/22Name the restaurant that feels most like home to you. "That's tricky. I do enjoy going to Lafayette in the morning for a coffee and a pastry. It doesn't necessarily feel like home, but they're friendly, I get a really good cup of coffee, and what I'd say is the best eclair in town." —Wylie Dufresne, chef/owner, Alder

Alex Lau12/22Name the restaurant that feels most like home to you. "Charlie Bird is my favorite restaurant in the city; I go there when I want to relax. I ate there on the last Sunday I had off before I opened [Birds & Bubbles]. I sat by myself at the bar and had this five-course situation going on, and I felt like I was at home. They make you feel like family there." —Sarah Simmons, chef/owner, Birds & Bubbles
