Welcome to My Morning Routine, where we take a look at how people kick-start the day. And by people we mean celebrities.
In real life, Peter Kaplan is the Editorial Director of Fairchild Publications, where he oversees Women's Wear Daily, Footwear News, Menswear, Fairchild Summits, and Fairchild Books. On Twitter, though, Kaplan has accumulated four impersonators (and counting), which are all sometimes hilarious: @crankykaplan, @wise_kaplan, @kaplan_soothing ("Where all the Kaplans go to relax"), and @real_kaplan. These impersonators exist because Kaplan--who edited the New York Observer for fifteen years, from the mid 90s to 2009--achieved a cult of personality among the city's media. With an ever-present sport coat, thick-framed glasses, a sharp mind and eccentric taste, he embodies the old-school print journalist. (The Twitter accounts were started by former Observer staffers partly to entertain each other, partly to honor his style.) We only spoke to the actual Kaplan [insert Twitter verified account checkmark here], but he still had a lot to say.
