I live in deep Brooklyn so I tend to take the train to work. I would love to bike, but some butt-head ripped off my Bianchi the day after I moved to the city. The 2/3 goes right from my block to Times Square, but it also stops at twice as many places as the 4/5, so I play a dangerous game of timing at Nevins Street. Sometimes the doors of both trains open simultaneously in some kind of transit miracle and I can walk gracefully across the platform from one car to another. Usually not. Because of this and other factors like whether my keys are already in my pants when I'm getting dressed, or whether I remember that I left my metro card behind before or after I get to the train station, I tend to arrive at exactly 8:45-11am.
I chronically never drink water so I wake up thirsty like the devil. I try to tough it out till I get to work where the free water and clean cups are at, but 99 out of 100 times I will stop at the Yemen deli and grab a 24 oz. orange Gatorade. Sometimes (often) they don't have orange Gatorade and I have to spend the next five minutes deciding between red and yellow before I inevitably decide on an Arizona ice tea instead. I try to drink my beverage very slowly on the train so that I run out just as I get to Nevins Street and don't have to walk around carrying an empty Gatorade bottle lookin' like a fool. When I get to Times Square I bee-line to 43rd and Broadway and get in the world's grumpiest queue so that I can get my shaky hands on my fix. I've always preferred the dark (burnt) taste of Starbucks because of my father's penchant for dark (more burnt) coffee, so when they introduced the monstrous TRENTA size, nothing could keep me away. No matter how cold it is outside, I get iced coffee because the hot stuff does unfortunate things to my sweat glands. You have to watch the "barista" real careful 'cause she will try to put in like 15 oz. of ice.
Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, but I live in the shadow of a roach army so I try not to cook too much (at all) in my house. As it is, I usually choke down a Sabrett's [hot dog] or a falafel from the cart on the corner before I enter the office building.
