Welcome to My Morning Routine, where we take a look at how people kick-start their days. For the first few installations, we'll focus on Bon Appetit staffers. Eventually, we'll move into the wide world of everyone else.
And now, a morning minimalist--our Features Editor Carla Lalli Music:**

Every morning I drink a big tall glass of hot water. I've taken the temperature. I like it best at around 150 degrees--or when it is just shy of burning my mouth.
I always eat breakfast. If eating at home, hot cereal with equal parts quinoa and steel-cut oats, splash milk, some almonds, and maple syrup. If eating here, I've been on a Greek yogurt/banana thing but I crave wheat toast and crunchy peanut butter. Also I keep walnuts and medjool dates on hand if nothing else appeals to me.
On the subway I read the paper and listen to music so I don't kill anyone. Subway etiquette is not a good thing to be preoccupied with if you live in New York City. So I'm constantly looking for distractions. Reading is good. I have Bossypants on my phone, which if I forget to grab the paper, is pretty entertaining.
