Welcome to My Morning Routine**, where we take a look at how people kick-start their days. For the first few installations, we'll focus on Bon Appetit staffers. Eventually we'll move into the wide world of everyone else

Today's creature of habit is Editor in Chief Adam Rapoport, who likes his coffee iced and his newspaper turned to the sports page:

I get in to work a little after 9am. I take my kid to school on the Upper West Side, which entails three stops on the 1 train, and then transferring to the 2/3 at Times Square for two stops to 96th Street. After dropping him off around 8:45am, I get back on the 2/3 to Times Square. If all goes as planned, it's a pretty quick commute. People like to gripe about the New York City subway, but it's kind of remarkably efficient--at least at rush hour.

To drink, it's always a cold-brew iced redeye from Cafe Grumpy. Which costs $5. It's my daily indulgence.

I love breakfast food, just not in the morning. If that makes sense. I like to keep it relatively light: one slice of multigrain toast with chunky peanut butter. I love the way the peanut butter melts and gets all glossy and how you can smell it from down the hall.

My only other reliable morning ritual: The New York Times sports page.
