Ryan Scott Has a Thing About Dental Care

Welcome to My Morning Routine, where we take a look at how (mostly famous) people kick-start the day.

Ryan Scott is one seriously busy man. He's just opened his second Market & Rye fast-casual café in San Francisco where he also owns a couple of food trucks and does a pretty brisk catering business. He's also the Bon Appétit Collection Chef on HSN--you can watch him on TV every other month selling our line of appliances, cookware and kitchen tools. (He's actually on air today selling some of our stuff--check your local listings.) We love this guy who, as you'll read, has a super weird obsession with his teeth--one which we appreciate him sharing with us. Here's how he gets his days going. --Leslie Robarge

If I'm at home in San Francisco, I'm up at 5. I don't like alarm noises, which is good because 99.999 percent of the time I wake up before my alarm goes off. By the way, my alarm sound is the "Marimba" on my iPhone and I have no idea how to change it.

The very next thing I do is brush my teeth--and by sharing this information with you I am aware that I sound like a prima donna, but I don't care. First, I floss. Then I brush my teeth. Then I use this mouth rinse that my dentist prescribed me. Then I use my water pick. Then I brush again with my Sonicare on a two-minute cycle. Finally, I finish with Listerine. It is what I do. Don't judge.

After I shower I will turn on my Keurig, if I have time. If you look in the back of my car, there is a scary stockpile of coffee mugs that I throw back there every morning after I finish the cup. Literally all of the coffee mugs in our house are in my back seat. I try to remember to take them into the house on Thursday, when my housekeeper comes, but this doesn't always happen. I think I drink Peet's coffee in the Keurig? If I had time I would drink Four Barrel Coffee from a press, but I don't. So, I save the good s*#t for the weekends and drink it black.

I don't eat breakfast because I am usually tasting food all morning. I will grab a Pellegrino or a coconut water from the fridge, and take three Green Food gummy vitamins that I get at Costco. They have all the protein you need. I could eat a whole tub of them, I love them so much. __They are basically adult Flintstone vitamins--so delicious.__My one exception for not eating breakfast is if I go to the gym in the morning. I try to get there twice a week, if it's a good week. I am the guy texting on the elliptical machine--that's me. I will come home ravenous. Sometimes I will quickly cook up some egg whites, but most of the time, I just go straight into the fridge and spoon hummus from a tub. I literally have tubs and tubs of it at home. It's all I eat. This morning I got a little fancy and had hummus with shredded chicken and lots of hot sauce. Great breakfast.

I'm out of the house by 6:15. I will stop by all three of my kitchens before I go into the office. By 10 a.m. I have done more than most people. For instance, today, I have already done three deals, and made someone cry. I feel bad about that. By noon, I will have fed 500 people between my catering business and the truck.

Bedtime is usually around 11. I'm not the type of person who needs much sleep. More than 5 hours and I'm a total freak.
