Last month I spent a week in Naples, Capri, Ischia, and Procida--parts of Italy I'd never been to before--as a guest of the Naples Tourism Board. What I learned: Many of the treasures of Italian cuisine involve nary a noodle, and some lemons can be chopped and eaten raw. Below, some photo highlights from the trip.

Very The Talented Mr. Ripley: A view of Procida from above. Allegedly the houses are all different colors so that fishermen can tell which is theirs from the sea.

Look at the exquisite packaging at the storied Caffe Gambrinus in Naples. I almost didn't want to destroy it, but there was sfogliatelle inside. So, yeah.

Lunch with the lemon farmers consisted of...lemon salad. As in chunks of lemon--which is sweet in Procida--dressed in olive oil. (We'll share more on this salad later in the day.)

Also served at lunch: Chopped tomatoes on bite-size bits of toast, a kind of mini bruschetta.

This is a room. A climate-controlled, aquamarine-colored room. And it is devoted entirely to one thing...

Desserts! No joke. It's at Il Riccio restaurant on Capri.

The last night of the trip, we had a long dinner at the Mezzatorre Resort & Spa. Here, an old-school canape presentation.

These orchids were tied around our napkins. Kay turned hers into a corsage. And I'm going to steal that idea: wearable, double-duty napkin rings.
