Staub’s enameled cast-iron cookware rivals Le Creuset’s and currently reigns supreme in our Dutch oven testing. The main difference between the brands’ Dutch ovens mostly comes down to the interior enamel. Lift the lid of a Le Creuset Dutch oven, and you’ll find a super-smooth sand-colored interior enamel. Lift the lid of a Staub, and you’ll see a slightly textured black interior enamel. Some home cooks prefer the dark, textured enamel because it offers better searing capability overall and won’t show as much wear over time, but you really can’t go wrong with either.

We’ve been impressed with nearly everything we’ve tried from them, including the flatware, Dutch oven, and enameled cast-iron frying pan. We’re the first to admit ceramic nonstick has a shorter lifespan than stainless steel or cast iron, but if you’re looking for a low-maintenance, easy-to-use pan for everyday cooking, the Always Pan 2.0 is genuinely impressive.
