Jonathan Gold, Los Angeles Times Restaurant Critic, Dead at 57

Los Angeles Times restaurant critic Jonathan Gold has died at age 57 of pancreatic cancer. Gold was widely heralded as one of the leading and most respected voices in food criticism, and his annual 101 Best Restaurants list was a testament to the amazing amount of ground he covered.

Gold received the Pulitzer Prize in 2007 for his work at LA Weekly—he is the only food critic who has received the prestigious award. In 2016, Gold was the subject of the documentary film City of Gold which offered a glimpse into Gold's world as a restaurant critic. He has written over 1000 reviews since the 1980s, focusing on the incredible variety of cuisines available in and around Los Angeles.
