Art student and designer Kelly Pratt has set out to make the sandwich of each of the 50 states for a project called Stately Sandwiches. To go along with each portrait of ingredients, she tells a story about why she cares about whatever state is represented on the cutting board, plus she shares its recipe.

Pratt started with Illinois (where she lives now), and has since completed California, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Kentucky. Things might get a little dicey when she tackled the less populous states (Dear Readers, what is North Dakota's signature sandwich?), but for now she's stuck to those concoctions between two slices of bread that we all know and love.

You can see the rest here, and it looks like she'll be selling prints soon. If you ask us, there are few better ways to greet the day than the sight of a muffuletta waiting to be made.
