How to Deseed a Pomegranate
Released on 12/13/2017
(classical music)
OK, whew.
(sighs)
What is that?
Oh, (bleep) dude, I don't know.
It kind of looks like an apple but it's not.
Oh, God.
Um.
Uh.
Um.
This is kinda creeping me out.
Am I supposed to cut it?
How do we do that?
Oh!
I'm just gonna...
That feels nice, oh (bleep) .
Just cuttin' into it.
Ooh, nope.
(classical music plays)
Oh, this looks like teeth.
That is terrifying.
(classical music plays)
There are seeds in it.
What?
This is just God playing a joke on us.
I'm sure there's a machine that does this at this point.
Eh.
Just gonna hit it.
(dishes clatter)
How are you actually supposed to do it though?
All right, so we're just gonna cut this bad boy in half.
Go straight down the middle.
(classical music plays)
Then this is where we crack, ah.
(fruit cracks repeatedly)
Scoop out the seeds, just get in there with your thumbs.
Just pick 'em out.
There we go.
Oh, that's juicy.
Almost there.
There's probably a better way to do this.
The easiest way to do this,
give it a good whacking with a wooden spoon.
Think of the person who you're mad at today
and should all work out for you.
(thumping)
And when you cut it, the seeds will come right out.
Once you open it, you're done, that's it.
All this bowl stuff, come on, get that out of here.
(rewinding tape)
When you slice this, you will get the most access to
the most seeds if you go horizontal
directly across the center.
Gonna take a bowl of water here.
The reason for the water is that it's gonna help separate
the pith from the seeds.
You have two options here, the first one is to
tap the back of your pomegranate until the seeds come out
and they're gonna fall into the water.
The pith will float and the seeds with sink.
The second option instead of hitting it with the knife,
is simply to squeeze it and rotate it in your hand.
The seeds will start to separate out and again,
they'll fall to the bottom and
the pith will float to the top.
The second version is my preferred method, just like that.
(classical music)
That is a meal fit for a king.
Perfect.
(crunching)
That... does not taste correct.
