At first glance, a cocktail menu organized by era seems kitschy. But at Herbs & Rye, it’s entirely sincere. The drinks list is thoughtfully curated, starting with the Gothic Age (“drinks with spirituous strength and little else,” according to the menu) and wrapping up with the Revival era (“the cocktail nation has come of age”). That Rat Pack Era list is too good to pass up, thanks to a little something we like to call the piña colada. Have another and then move on to somewhere a little quieter for proper dinner.

PRO TIP: Nothing on the cocktail menu strike your fancy? Tell the bartenders what sort of drink you like, and they’ll concoct something new for you.

DETAILS: Monday–Saturday: 5 p.m.–3 a.m. Closed Sundays.
