GO HERE: If you want to stay in a gorgeous house in the best neighborhood—Condesa—and are able to reserve early. Many people come to Mexico City with the fantasy of staying in a charming home with local hosts, but most options skew toward large-scale hotels and misleading AirBnbs. This one is an immaculately restored, seven-room 1930s manse with flawless service.

GET THE: Two-bed, two bath penthouse suite, where you can step out to a roof garden planted with bananas, limes, and birds of paradise. Or the tiny “Treehouse” suite with a private terrace and budget price. La Rama is a small house across the street with access to The Red Tree House — its five rooms are available for rent, too.

THE VIBE IS: Simple and colorful Mexican—but not folksy—decor in each of the seven rooms. The common areas are perfect for an early evening glass of wine and chatting with the staff or other guests.

PRACTICAL STUFF: Rooms start at $95, up to $240 for the penthouse suite. Try to book ahead.
