Mandolin Aegean Bistro
Your own Mediterranean island in the Design District
Gesi Schilling
Almost all the seating at this hidden 1940s house is outdoors—at least that’s where you’ll want to be, tucked into an Aegean-blue chair under a white umbrella as you feel like you’ve traveled much, much farther on your vacation. Like the setting, the food is purely Eastern Med. You can start with a sampler of dips from Turkey (hummus, tomato-walnut dip, beet purée) or Greece (tzatziki, tarama, eggplant purée), indulge in lamb ribs, then share a simply grilled sea bass with olive oil, oregano, and lemon. The wine list focuses on small family-owned producers; better yet, bottles under $50 are plentiful.
PRO TIP: Come for a sunny lunch (wear sunscreen), then wander the boutiques in the Design District.
THE DETAILS: Open daily from noon–11 p.m.
