
Buxton Hall Barbecue

In 2016, we named Asheville, North Carolina’s Buxton Hall the best new BBQ joint in America. Unfortunately, after eight years of delivering some of the best barbecue we’ve ever tasted, the restaurant closed in 2023. But, the restaurant’s legacy lives on in the recipes from that September 2016 issue. The chef and pitmaster of Buxton was Elliott Moss, a South Carolina native who worked at several restaurants, including the Admiral, before joining then-partner Meherwan Irani to open Buxton Hall Barbecue. He went on to open Buxton Hall Chicken Palace, Little Louie’s Hoagies & Pierogis, and Regina’s in West Asheville. Today, he is in the planning stages for his latest venture, Elliott’s. Moss is a two-time James Beard Best Chef Southeast nominee and the author of Book of Smoke.
