BA Toasts the Left Coast at A-Frame

Remind us why we left LA again?

For many years, Bon Appetit called Los Angeles home before relocating to New York last January. We have not forgotten our Left Coast roots, however (hell, we did a piece on how to cook and bake with matcha in our last issue), and to prove our love we hosted a party last night at A-Frame. (Get a look at the restaurant here).

Big-deal LA restaurant types like Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo from Animal / Son of a Gun, and Sang Yoon from burger Mecca Father's Office were there. So were the big-deal Hollywood types: Anna Faris, funnyman Tim Heidecker (of Tim and Eric fame), Armie Hammer (who played that handsome Winklevoss duo in The Social Network), Emilio Estevez with his winemaker fiancee Sonja Magdevski, and those cool kids from Party Down--all chowing on chef Roy Choi's ultimate finger food. Specifically:

-Furikake Kettle Corn (Seriously, when did popcorn taste so good?)
-Heirloom Pickles (The Asian pear variety were particularly mind-blowing)
-Baby Back Ribs (Messy but oh-so worth the extra napkin)
-Swordfish Tacos (We're not ashamed to say we had half a dozen)
-Beer Can Chicken (The chicken was fantastic, but the salsa verde dipping sauce was chuggable)
-"Thick-Ass Ice Cream Sandwiches" (Ironic, given LA's fitness obsession and the lack of actual thick asses in the house)

Not to mention house drinks like The Trick (a fave that mashed up a Pimm's Cup with tequila and chiles) and The Origami (hello, rye whiskey).

All in all, we had a true blast and, it being LA, the whole thing wrapped up at a very manageable 11 p.m.
