It's Fashion Week in New York, which means a few things: The city is virtually crawling with models, clothing envy is at an all-time high, and (most importantly) we have a great excuse to throw a sweet dinner party with fashion mogul
Rachel Roy. Yep, we did just that last night on the rooftop of the brand-spanking new NoMad hotel in Manhattan.
As with most events where Rachel Roy is the Guest of Honor, the fashionista VIP-heavy roll call was formidable: Top Chef's
Padma Lakshmi, models
Chrissy Teigen and Hilary Rhoda,
Hal Rubenstein of In Style, singer
Natasha Bedingfield, fashion blogger
Bryan Boy, actor
Kyle MacLachlan and many others.
But this was a dinner party, after all, and one should pay attention to the food when NoMad's chef
Daniel Humm (also of the longtime hit Eleven Madison Park) puts together the menu. When was the last time you had a chiffonade of snow peas with pancetta, Pecorino, and mint paired with lobster in a minestrone with fava beans, lemon verbena, and a few delicate pieces of garganelli pasta at your dinner party? Yeah, us neither.
Everyone left very happy, but the one thing that food nerds and high-end fashion lovers truly came together on--though Roy assures us that the idea that fashion people don't eat or love food is a total "misconception"--were the various macarons inspired by colors from the Germany Collection of nail polish titan OPI (for real). Roy and her crew loved the fashion shout-out and, we, well, we like macarons. Call it a win-win. --Matt Duckor
