It’s the post-holidays part of winter—that time of the year when it’s less about going out and more about staying in. The things I have on rotation right now are all about bringing me comfort, whether it’s my current favorite record for afternoons on the couch, a face mask to restore my skin from the cold weather, or a bright and bracing lemon dressing to wake me up when it’s only 4 p.m. and already dark.

I collect mortars and pestles. I have 14 so far, from Iran, Italy, Thailand, and more. I won’t use anything else to make pestos or crush whole spices.

I love this white tamari from Nitto Jozo because it’s slightly sweeter and less overpowering than the usual soy sauce. I use it in stir-fries and as a simple seasoning for salads.

I can’t stop making this whole-lemon dressing that uses the skin, pith, and flesh. It shines splashed in salads and drizzled over fish and chicken.

I’ve made people listen to Kurt Vile’s Bottle It In in the BA Test Kitchen on repeat. Because it’s a mix of psychedelic funk, rock, and nostalgia, the album fits any mood I’m feeling.

If I could afford it, I would use the Biologique Recherche Masque VIP 02 every day. It’s my savior when I need an ultra hydrating pick-me-up but can’t escape to the spa.

I’m obsessed with these little cazuelas. I bought during a trip to Barcelona several years ago. I use them for marinated olives (plus a small one for the pits), dips, and other snacky things.
