We got the scoop on the "Call Me Maybe" singer's favorite breakfast treats, her dad's pancakes, and her latte art abilities

Welcome to My Morning Routine, where we take a look at how people kick-start the day. And by "people" we mean celebrities.

Carly Rae Jepsen may be a name you associate with hot-weather fun--her smash single, "Call Me Maybe," was blasted at every pool party, barbecue, and wedding this summer--but the beat goes on. After a record-shattering nine weeks topping the Billboard Hot 100 and the U.S. debut of her album Kiss, she's won New Artist of the Year at the American Music Awards. But where does it all begin? Breakfast and a bath. We talked to the pop princess about her mornings, from her dad's perfect pancakes to her former life as a barista. --Danielle Walsh

My wake-up time is always different. If I have a TV appearance on an early show, I can be up at like 4 in the morning, but if it's a tour day, it could be 11 a.m. I wish I could say I go to the gym in the morning, but I don't. I usually just have a relaxing bath. And I listen to jazz music when I'm getting my hair and makeup ready. I really like Blossom Dearie, she's my fave. But breakfast is the first thing you do; getting all dolled up comes after that. My go-to morning drink is black tea with milk and honey, probably because it's what my mom would always drink--it's comforting. My singing teacher told me that black tea is horrible for your vocal cords, though, so it's kind of like my guilty pleasure.

I have the same thing for breakfast every day: vanilla yogurt with granola and fruit. And if I can get my hands on some boiled eggs, I go for those, too. When it comes to bacon, the crunchier the better, but really
any bacon is good by me. If fresh-squeezed orange juice is around, I will not say no. But no pulp, please.

When I'm home in Canada, my dad makes me his famous pancakes. I think they're just made right from the box, but whatever he does--the amount of water he uses, something like that--he just nails the perfect pancake.

When I'm touring, there are plenty of times when my usual breakfast just isn't an option. We couldn't find any yogurt parfaits in Japan, so we went for rice balls stuffed with tuna instead. They were insanely delicious!

One of my favorite breakfasts abroad is in Paris--I have to have a croissant. I don't normally like croissants anywhere else, but when you're in Paris, it's kind of just a no-brainer. You can't not have a croissant when you are there.

When I lived in Vancouver, before I did all this music stuff, I used to work at Trees Organic Coffee as a barista and pasty chef assistant. All my friends worked there, and I started a music night once a week. It's been a while since I've done any latte art myself, but I'm sure I would remember at least how to make a leaf or something.

I used to think I would be able to remember all the recipes the pasty chef at the coffee shop taught me--that I'd be all Barefoot Contessa-style some day. Now I don't know how to make anything except for eight cheesecakes. A whole batch, not just one.
