My five-year-old comes in around 6:00 AM every morning and wakes us up. I help him get changed and make sure he makes his bed, then I'll make him breakfast and my own breakfast at the same time.
I have oatmeal just about every morning. I make it with some vanilla soy milk and I put raisins and slivered almonds in it, plus some banana, blueberries, raspberries--and then I sprinkle some cinnamon on top. Then I'll sit down with him and we'll eat together. Then, I have to make sure he brushes his teeth and finishes getting dressed to go to school.
My son has a cyclical thing he does. On Sundays, it's pancakes with a couple chocolate chips and veggie bacon on the side (we're vegetarians), and then a glass of 2 percent milk. Then the next day he'll have Cheerios, always veggie bacon on the side, and then the next day is oatmeal.
We hide pureed cauliflower in his oatmeal to make sure he's getting enough vegetables, then dump a ton of brown sugar in, so he can't actually taste it at all.
Then
there's usually a debate about whether he gets to watch TV during breakfast--there's Spider-Man, Dora the Explorer, or Sesame Street (we try to push for Sesame Street). My wife's up through all this, so we're talking about our days, and she likes to read the Wall Street Journal.
If I have an early call for Weeds, I'll just eat on the set, they have so many options there. But at home, we adults like to eat Morningstar Farms veggie bacon and patty sausages, and I like Boca Burgers.
Right now one of my kitchen cupboard doors is hanging half way off the hinges because I noticed it wasn't closing, so that's my post-breakfast chore, to try to fix this thing.
I drink decaf coffee once in a while. My wife just got one of those Keurig machines, so you don't have to brew a whole pot of coffee.
I can't have regular caffeine or my heart takes off on me. I'll use half and half, or whole milk, but my first choice is Coffee-Mate, if we have that, or they have that on set.
