French Onion Soup is the kind of rich, savory dish that seems to take hours. Not so, at least with this recipe; if you use good-quality beef stock, the rest is a cinch. Finished with a bit of toasty French bread and melted--and melting--Gruyere, nothing could be better to cure those cold-weather blues.
