The West Village has long been beloved for its European charm, so it’s no surprise that April chose this cozy neighborhood to open her first solo venture, The Spotted Pig. Wandering through the narrow, winding streets, April has tested all the iconic neighborhood spots, but she’s also witnessed the Village’s constant evolution, as it continues to welcome some of the best new restaurants in NYC.
Tea and Sympathy
When April is missing London’s charms, this nostalgic café is her cure for homesickness. The hearty “fry up,” ginger cake and custard are her go-tos for a taste of home. 108 Greenwich Ave., (212) 989-9735, teaandsympathy.com
Via Carota
Owned by two other female chefs, this trattoria checks all the beautiful boxes. The seasonal vegetable plates are matched pace-for-pace by the curated wine list and expert pastries. 51 Grove St., (212) 255-1962, viacarota.com
Barbuto
Chef Jonathan Waxman makes for a wonderful neighbor, and April is a fan of his pan-fried gnocchi. Of course, she encourages you to order his famed JW Chicken as well. 775 Washington St., (212) 924-9700, barbutonyc.com
Bar Pitti
Born of a passionate Italian rivalry, this classic Village establishment is known for its outdoor patio. April particularly recommends the puntarelle (Italian bitter greens) with anchovies. 268 Sixth Ave., (212) 982-3300
The Rusty Knot
It doesn’t get more waterfront than this charming tiki dive on the West Side. April endorses the Mai Tai, but her go-to order is a lime-and-salt-rimmed Tecate with the house-made pretzel hotdog. 425 West St., (212) 645-5668
