Inspired by growing demand from parents who have money to burn molding their kids in their own image, Brooklyn coffee shops have started brewing up the espresso equivalent of a kids' meal: the babyccino.
According to the Brooklyn Paper the babyccino comes in two varieties, depending on the cafe. Some shops are serving steamed milk topped with a little foam, others drop in a shot of decaf espresso, for the aspirational big kids out there. Like most goofy things, the trend can be traced back to Australia circa 2001, when kid-sized capps became popular down under.
No one bothers to explain why kids need a special drink on the menu, when the traditional "sip from mom/dad's mug" or "normal decaf whatever" work fine, but at least actually training your kids to be Baristas with a capital B hasn't yet gone beyond this:
