How You Can Help Flooded Farmers in NY and VT

Residents of Vermont and upstate New York who were hit hard by Hurricane Irene are banding together. One town in the Green Mountain State, totally cut off from any road access, threw a community barbecue! But that doesn't mean they couldn't use some help.

This is especially true for the regions' agricultural sector. Getting the farms that feed a lot of people on the East Coast up and running again is no small task. So below are two ways to help flooded farmers in NY and VT. We're sure more donation opportunities will crop up in the next few days, so let us know if you hear of any. We'll share them on this blog.

For New York farmers: GrowNYC has a roundup of ways to help greenmarket farmers weather the floods.

For Vermont: Seven Days has a similar roundup of charities helping Vermont residents and farmers.

It's the least we can do for people who grow and produce some of the best fruits, vegetables, meat, and dairy in the country.
