How We Vet Prime Day Deals

Not every Prime Day deal is actually a good deal,

and figuring out which ones are worth your money

is my entire job right now.

I'm Olivia, a senior editor on Bon Appétit's

Shopping and Reviews team,

and this is the most wonderful time of year

if you like conditional formatting

and Boolean logic, like me.

Here's what happens before a Prime Day deal

makes it onto our site.

I see the world in spreadsheets.

We're not just hunting for random deals.

We start with products we've already tested and recommend

and put them into one giant spreadsheet.

Then I can dig into the pricing history

to figure out whether a Prime Day deal

is one of the best prices we'll see all year,

or whether you're better off waiting.

A big discount doesn't automatically mean it's a good deal.

Let me show you.

So let's take the Vitamix 5200 blender, for example.

This is one of our favorite blenders.

The lowest price it's been all year is $299.

It's not going to hit this price during Prime Day.

So in this case, I would say skip it.

All of this information is publicly available.

You can check the price history on Amazon,

and here you can see that over one year,

the price fluctuates a lot.

But right down there is the lowest price it gets,

and it's not gonna hit that this time around.

An example of a good deal is this All-Clad D3 cookware set.

All-Clad almost never goes on sale,

but the Amazon Prime Day price

is gonna be the lowest that we've seen all year,

so this is a must-buy.

Go to BonAppetit.com to check out all the deals.

We're gonna be updating this article all week

with our Prime Day picks

and let you know what's actually worth buying.
