Nashville with The Black Keys
Released on 01/13/2012
(Black Mud by The Black Keys)
So I'm here with Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys
at your studio...
[Dan] Yeah.
[Andrew] In Nashville, Tennessee.
What got you down here?
Why Nashville?
I gotta be honest.
I moved here partly because there
are so many good restaurants.
Yeah.
My friend would kinda take me out
and drive me around town
and he would take me to like
all the spots around town.
Arnold's and stuff like that?
Arnold's and you know, we went to Gaby's,
we'd eat some food at Marché
and these were all things that you just can't get in Akron.
Is there a parallel between food
and music in the way you kind of put it together?
There's a parallel in that every good chef
I've ever met is a soulful person.
You know, you either sort of have that thing or you don't.
Generally musicians and chefs don't like
to be told what to do.
(laughs) Yeah.
They don't like to have bosses, right?
They're kinda crazy, they stay up all night.
Right, and there's even the parallel
of the whole molecular gastronomy stuff.
That's like, Radiohead.
Yeah, that's Radiohead.
(laughing)
So after you've been on the road for months at a time.
First thing I do is wake up and go get pho.
(laughing)
[Andrew] Go get a cortado?
With my daughter because she loves it.
Yeah, I go to Mas Tacos.
I mean I love going over there and getting their soup.
[Andrew] Fish tacos on Friday?
[Dan] Fish tacos on Friday are awesome.
Yeah, I go to CITY HOUSE and get the pizza.
Tandy hates that man.
Everybody loves his pizza and he's like,
I hate making this pizza.
(laughs)
It's sorta like when bands have to always play their hits.
(laughing)
And they get sick of it.
