It’s not a restaurant, it’s a Silver Lake community with a major cult following

Regulars at this tiny, toast-forward, breakfast-all-day café in Silver Lake are a loyal bunch, lining up for thick slices of burnt brioche slathered with ricotta and pretty housemade jam, bowls of “kaboulleh” (kale, raw cauliflower, and crispy fried rice), and jam-filled French toast with crème fraîche. The creative seasonal food is kinda healthy, kinda decadent, and definitely delicious. Even the drinks are groundbreaking, like an iced Vietnamese coffee shaken with egg whites (meet the Lait ’N Egg). Vegans and vegetarians are as happy here as meat-loving restaurant critic Jonathan Gold, who has a namesake sandwich: prosciutto and fennel on burnt baguette. If only it weren’t so crazy crowded —it would be great to be able to linger until the next meal.

PRO TIP: Beat the rush by going before 8:30 a.m. or just after 3. Also: Save room in your suitcase for taking home lots of Sqirl jam.

THE DETAILS: Open weekdays from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; weekends from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
