The Ace Hotel
In case you didn’t notice the DJ in the lobby, the Ace is definitely not for those who like it cushy and quiet. If you want a pillow menu and a quilted headboard, try farther uptown. With its vintage pastiche decor and a roster of destination-worthy restaurants (The Breslin Bar and Dining Room and John Dory Oyster Bar, both from April Bloomfield), cult shops (Opening Ceremony, Project No. 8, and the Ace’s own kiosk), and a Stumptown Coffee, the Ace has created its own hipster ecosystem in the middle of a deeply uncool neighborhood. You can spend all morning taking meetings or writing in the lobby (if you can get a chair), then make your way to one of the restaurants for lunch, followed by drinks, followed by a spin in the photo booth…you get the idea. The NoMad, Sweetgreen, and No. 7 Sub are just down the street in case you decide to roll off the property.
PRO TIP: Order 24-hour room service from the Breslin and Stumptown. Before you book your trip, check out their events calendar to see which DJ, musician, writer, artist-in-residence, or motivational speaker you can catch.
THE DETAILS: Rooms from $133 (that’s for a bunk bed!).
