Matt Gross Is Leaving BonAppetit.com and We Don't Like It One Bit
BonAppetit.com editor Matt Gross is shipping up to Boston to become the editor of Boston.com. We've spent the last week in alternating states of denial, sadness, and fear, but today, on Gross's last day at BA, we've finally just accepted that we're losing an incredible editor and an all-around great guy. Today, we choose to celebrate Matt Gross. We're taking a look back at some of our favorite Gross-isms, as well as offering a few suggestions for Boston-themed recipes he might want to look into. We'll miss you, Matt, puns and all.
2/9Baked Beans
Although baked beans didn't actually originate in Boston (details, details), it's probably in Gross's best interest to master them—nobody likes canned baked beans, after all. Which reminds us of an article about stylish tuna cans we wrote back in the spring of 2014. Gross packaged the article for our homepage as only he can (seriously, the rest of us might've gotten, um, canned for this one) with the headline "Nice Cans!"

Mm, lobster. Is there any place better than Massachusetts to eat the stuff? Well, Maine, maybe. But hey! That's neither here nor there. We couldn't think of any iconic Matt Gross lobster puns, so we just shot over an IM asking him to describe lobster in one word. "Oh, if only I could!" he responded, following it up with a very succinct "crustaceanal."
4/9Boston Brown Bread
Bread, baked in coffee cans? What are you doing over there, Boston? Matt: Please do this immediately and report back. Hey! One of our favorite Gross-generated headlines of all time was actually about bread! This slideshow about ways to use up stale bread was dubbed "Stalemate." Boom.
5/9Banana Cream Pie
So we don't have a recipe for Boston cream pie. Sue us. But now that we're talking about pie, let's talk about Gross's greatest pie headline ever. This slideshow, for apple pie recipes, was slapped with an "Apple of My Pie." Get it? Get it??
Ditte Isager6/9Poached Cod with Tomato and Saffron
Of course Gross will have to make his fair share of cod recipes in Massachusetts. Actual fish fact: On April Fool's Day this year, he made us create a fish recipe slideshow celebrating the French version of the holiday, Poisson d'Avril. Seriously. He made us.

Cranberries and Massachusetts go together like Matt Gross and BonAppetit.com. (Please don't leave us.)
