Why We Hate BA Foodist Andrew Knowlton (But Only Today)

Swan Oyster Depot is a San Francisco fish store with an 18-seat counter—and a line around the block the minute it opens. And just the other day, you could find Andrew Knowlton, Bon Appétit's restaurant and drinks editor, in that line, which is a rare sight: The man is willing to wait in line for almost nothing in this world—except Swan's Dungeness crab and smoked salmon on rye. We'd wait in line for it, too. You know, if we were in San Francisco, taking slow-gaited walks down Polk Street with full bellies and just a smidge of a buzz—instead of at our desks, struggling through flu season, eyes red from the computer screen.

Then Knowlton had the utter gall to hit up Zuni Café, where chef Judy Rodgers serves her famous chicken and bread salad for two, local oysters, and simple American fare prepared just so. Knowlton, dedicated Foodist that he is, posted each course to his Instagram account as if to taunt his followers (i.e., us). Cool, dude. Thanks.
