Bon Appétit & Brizo Present Counter Culture
Released on 07/15/2016
My name's Alison Cayne, and I own a recreational
cooking school called Haven's Kitchen.
My name's Athena Calderone, I have an interior design
firm and a lifestyle blog called Eye Swoon.
I'm Jordan Bahler
and I'm an industrial designer for Brizo.

If a house is a body, the kitchen is the heart.
I think that Scandinavian and anything
coming out of Denmark is kind of on my radar
and I think it has been for a while.
Open shelving has made me a better cook
because I can grab quickly,
I know exactly what I have and what I'm using
and what I'm not using.
Designing for the kitchen is really kind of
a two fold type assignment.
Sometimes we're not going for new technology or innovation,
it's as simple as find a design for this certain aesthetic.
As far as innovation technology, that's actually really
exciting part of design 'cause it's problem solving.
I think some of the most beautiful kitchens
I've seen lately are these almost like ship galley kitchens,
so if you do have that small space,
make it really functional.
Articulated was our latest launch and I love it
because it looks like an architect's lamp
and an inspiration story is just great
but functionality of it, you no longer have to put like
your awkward-shaped pot in your sink
and try to find the sweet spot to let it fill,
you can just position it.
Our whole mission at Haven's Kitchen is to make people
feel comfortable in the kitchen and to make cooking
something that they actually want to do.
I feel like I found myself and my creativity
in the kitchen, it's where ideas are born
and friendships are made.
