Everyone with UC has different trigger foods. You may be able to tolerate dairy, for example, while others can't. However, fruits, vegetables, healthy unsaturated fats (like olive oil and walnuts), and lean proteins are generally well-tolerated. Meanwhile, saturated fats, processed proteins, red meat, and spicy ingredients can commonly cause flares. To help you navigate Bon Appetit's extensive recipe library, we teamed up with registered dietitian Roxana Ehsani, RD, CSSD, to identify UC-friendly recipes that fit these parameters. Of course, always read all ingredients carefully before you begin cooking, and only make recipes that fit your specific dietary needs.
