__Everyone's a-twitter about an experiment Facebook conducted __that manipulated users' news feeds to gauge how our social networks affect our emotional states. We all know the drill: Log on, scroll through a list of recent or popular posts from your friends, then maybe, if you're feeling it, post a status of your own. It's muscle memory, and we rarely actually think about doing it.
But researchers from Cornell University and the University of California at San Francisco were curious about how we react to the updates we read: They wanted to know if Facebook users would post negatively after reading negative feeds—and vice-versa. So they tweaked the tone of almost 700,000 users and observed the results. While some Facebookers are raging mad, we couldn't help but get a little curious ourselves… about the recipes that we post on our feed. Does seeing a cozy casserole make you yearn for home?
