dates, pitted, halved lengthwise, then halved crosswise

kumquats, sliced, seeded

Preparation
Combine first 9 ingredients in medium saucepan. Bring to boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer 3 minutes. Add dates and kumquats; simmer 1 minute longer (chutney thickens when chilled). Season with salt and pepper; stir in cilantro. Chill uncovered until cold. DO AHEAD Can be made 8 hours ahead. Cover and keep chilled.
