How to Buy, Store, and Cook Lemons, in Season in December
Thankfully, lemons are readily available throughout the year—it would be hard to imagine grilled fish without a spritz of lemon or a citrus-less drink in the summertime. But, like almost all produce, lemons do have an actual season, and it's in the late fall throughout the winter.

How to buy
Look for small lemons that are heavy for their size. The skin should be bright yellow, firm, with no scars or wrinkles.
How to store
Store on your counter top for up to 10 days, or keep in a plastic zipped sandwich bag in the refrigerator for up to four weeks.
